Cobblestone residents evacuate amid gas leak

Maricopa first responders were called to Cobblestone Farms on West Stonecreek Road this afternoon, following reports of a gas leak. The incident occurred on August 5, 2024, requiring immediate attention from local police, fire departments, and Southwest Gas crews.

Emergency services arrived at a residence on the 43800 block just before 2:45 p.m. According to an ELM Utility Services spokesperson, the affected area needed a 200-foot radius cleared to ensure safety. Multiple residents, including Nicole Brown, were evacuated from their homes.

Monica Williams, a city spokesperson, indicated that a construction crew working in the vicinity had accidentally struck a gas line. “The line was hit in my front yard,” Brown confirmed. She waited outside with her family and two dogs as firefighters provided water to keep them cool.

Brown also mentioned that Southwest Gas teams had to temporarily shut off both gas and power to her home. “I don’t know how long it’ll be before it’s fixed,” she said.

Authorities continue to investigate the exact cause of the incident. There were no injuries reported. Residents are advised to remain cautious and adhere to safety protocols until further notice.
