Tragic Arizona Camping Adventure: Baby Dies, Grandfather Arrested

PHOENIX — The family of a 19-month-old boy, Antonio Pacheco, tragically lost him during a weekend camping trip when an off-road vehicle crash occurred. The incident took place near Oak Creek Canyon and involved his grandfather, Miguel Pacheco, who was driving at the time.
In response to this heartbreaking event, the family organized a car wash to help cover funeral expenses. Jazelle Pacheco, Toni’s mother, expressed her sorrow, describing her son as a sweet child whose smile could brighten any room. “He had so much personality,” she said.
Priscilla Palma, Jazelle’s mother, recounted the chaos that unfolded after the crash. “All we could see is a cloud of dust. I heard everyone yelling, so I started running towards everybody,” she recalled. The unexpected nature of the accident has left the family in shock.
Baby Toni succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Two other children, aged 17 and 7, were also involved but are reported to be recovering. Authorities arrested Miguel Pacheco on serious charges, including manslaughter and multiple counts of DUI.
