At Maricopa Rally, Trump-Endorsed Biggs Vows to Reinstate Power in Governor’s Office

U.S. Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Gilbert) made a notable appearance at the City of Maricopa Republicans Club on June 28, 2025, aiming to solidify his position as a leading candidate for Arizona’s governorship.
Speaking to attendees at Calvary Church on Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway, Biggs laid out his campaign strategy, marking a significant political event as it’s the first major candidate visit to the city since 2020. He is set to challenge incumbent Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs in the upcoming election.
“Arizona needs a strong governor as we return to a federalist system. That’s what I hope to bring to the table,” Biggs asserted during his address.
As he nears the conclusion of his third term, Biggs represents Arizona’s Fifth Congressional District, which includes much of Gilbert and parts of Chandler and Queen Creek. In a crowded Republican field, he faces notable competition, primarily from Karrin Taylor Robson, who is endorsed by Donald Trump.
Club President Marty Hermanson expressed his preference for Biggs over Robson, citing her loss in the 2022 gubernatorial primary. Biggs, a member of the House Freedom Caucus, has garnered endorsements from both Trump and Arizona-based Turning Point USA.
“He fights for the citizens of both Arizona and the U.S. His experience across different political roles makes him very qualified,” Hermanson remarked.
Conversely, some attendees had reservations. Jeff Northrup, a Maricopa Meadows resident, protested outside, criticizing Biggs’s ties to Trump. He held a sign stating, “Andy Biggs J6 promoter,” illustrating his concerns.
Despite dissenting voices, the indoor crowd of about 60 expressed enthusiasm for Biggs, resonating with his stances on critical issues: border security, budget management, educational options, election integrity, and maintaining Arizona’s status as a Republican stronghold.
“I learned the Left never sleeps. That’s why I’m sad to say we can’t either,” Biggs emphasized to the audience. “We love our country and state. We must remain vigilant to preserve our freedoms.”
