Arizona Lawmaker Demands Urgent Congressional Session Following US Airstrikes on Iran

PHOENIX — President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. military conducted strikes on key Iranian nuclear sites, claiming these facilities were “completely and fully obliterated.” This action marks a significant escalation in ongoing tensions between the U.S. and Iran.
Reports indicate that three specific sites were targeted early Sunday. This military action appears to directly support Israel’s efforts to dismantle Iran’s nuclear program, amidst fears that such moves could provoke retaliatory actions from Tehran. The Associated Press has described this as a critical and risky operation that could set off broader regional conflict.
In light of these developments, Arizona lawmakers have voiced their concerns. Representative Yassamin Ansari has called for an “immediate emergency session of Congress” to address the situation.
Senator Mark Kelly expressed gratitude for the military’s professionalism but raised concerns about the decision-making process behind these strikes. He emphasized the need to contain possible retaliation from Iran and urged a diplomatic approach to prevent further escalation.
Senator Ruben Gallego highlighted the public’s reluctance to enter another prolonged engagement in the Middle East, citing personal experiences from his time in Iraq. He demanded that President Trump justify the strikes with clear evidence, warning that failure to do so may jeopardize American lives.
On a different note, Representative Andy Biggs praised President Trump for his leadership and urged Iran to return to negotiations, while Congressman Juan Ciscomani supported the strikes as a necessary action for global safety.
Meanwhile, Representative Yassamin Ansari criticized the military action as illegal, accusing the President of overstepping his authority without congressional approval.
Representative Greg Stanton expressed gratitude for service members’ safe return but echoed concerns over the lack of transparency regarding the President’s decision, questioning the potential for further military involvement.
Finally, Representative Abraham Hamadeh defended the strikes, asserting that decisive action against Iran’s nuclear ambitions was necessary for peace.
