Phoenix Blazes at 117°F Thursday, Setting the Year’s Hottest Record!

Temperatures are set to trend “cooler” this weekend as fire danger increases across Arizona.
PHOENIX — Thursday marked the hottest day of the year in Phoenix with temperatures soaring to 117 degrees. An extreme heat warning remains in effect through Friday, but relief is on the horizon.
As a low-pressure trough approaches from the west, temperatures are expected to drop just in time for the weekend. This system will even bring snow to the northern Rockies.
However, with the cooler temperatures, winds will pick up, raising significant fire weather concerns from Friday into Saturday. A red flag warning is in place for Northern Arizona during this period.
Isolated shower and thunderstorm chances may arise early next week in far eastern Arizona, while the Valley remains dry due to limited monsoon moisture.
Seven-Day Forecast:
SUNDAY: High of 103, Low of 79 – below normal
THURSDAY: High of 108, Low of 80 – mainly sunny
