Muralist Mory brings another Pacana Park wall to life

Pacana Park continues to brighten with artistic endeavors, showcasing local talent in vibrant murals.

On the morning of June 19, 2025, artist Mauriel “Mory” Morejon completed a new mural valued at $3,100 on the eastern side of a restroom building near the park’s main playground. This location previously served as a Maricopa Express Transit bus stop.

Morejon dedicated nine hours to the project, employing a blend of acrylic and enamel paints. The mural, designed by the city, features striking cactus flowers set against a colorful roadrunner, creating a surreal atmosphere.

Adding a unique touch, Morejon incorporated copper-toned mountains into the background, ensuring that while the colors are vivid, they remain visually harmonious.

This mural marks the third installment at Pacana Park, following Morejon’s previous works, including a lakeside mural and a Gila monster mural at the fitness court. In a morning interview, he expressed intentions to paint an additional piece on the adjacent northern wall in the future.

Morejon has previously contributed several other public art projects in Maricopa, including a large mural on a water tower, a fresco at the Maricopa Museum and Visitor Center, and a painted horse statue near John Wayne and Alterra Parkways.

“Public art plays a vital role in creating a sense of place,” said Quinn Konold, Community Enrichment Director. “These artworks become lasting symbols, bringing character and uniqueness to their surroundings and inviting creativity.” The city is eager to continue highlighting the immense talent of local and regional artists.
