Prosecutor Unveils Charges Against Suspect in Apache Junction Officer’s Murder

Prosecutors have charged Roger Nunez, 37, with multiple offenses including first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Apache Junction Officer Gabriel Facio.
The criminal charges stem from a confrontation on June 2, when officers attempted to engage with a driver near Ironwood Road and Radiance Avenue. Nunez reportedly opened fire, leading to an exchange that left both him and Officer Facio injured.
Officer Facio succumbed to his injuries on June 8, prompting the Pinal County Attorney’s Office to announce intentions to prosecute Nunez for murder, assault, and weapon misconduct. Nunez is currently held on a cash-only bond set at $500,000.
A funeral service for Officer Facio is scheduled for June 16, honoring his service and sacrifice.
