Trial Begins for Ex-Valley News Anchor Facing Fraud Allegations

Stephanie Hockridge, a former anchor for ABC15 in Phoenix, is currently facing trial for allegations of fraud related to COVID-19 relief funds.
In Dallas, the trial marks a significant development for the former Valley news figure. Hockridge and her husband, Nathan Reis, were indicted last year in Texas for allegedly misusing federal relief funds from the Paycheck Protection Program, as stated by the U.S. Department of Justice.
On Monday, a jury was selected for Hockridge’s trial, with proceedings advancing throughout the week. According to court records, the couple is believed to have used their business, Blueacorn, to assist small businesses in securing PPP loans during the pandemic.
The indictment charges Hockridge and Reis, along with alleged co-conspirators, with submitting fraudulent loan applications. These submissions purportedly contained false information regarding payroll figures and business operations.
Key evidence in the case includes claims of fabricated documents, such as altered bank statements and payroll records. The DOJ has yet to release detailed accounts of the submitted applications.
The case has drawn attention as it unfolds, emphasizing the broader implications of fraud related to relief programs established during the pandemic.
