Ride-share driver arrested for allegedly assaulting passenger in Buckeye

BUCKEYE, Ariz. — Buckeye police arrested a ride-share driver, Arthur Williams, on June 5, following accusations of sexual assault involving a passenger back in January. The incident was reported on January 19.

The victim, a woman, stated she was picked up by Williams while using Lyft from Westgate in Glendale. During the ride, she alleged that he made inappropriate comments regarding her height and appearance.

Upon arrival at her residence, the woman exited the vehicle. Williams allegedly suggested they “compare” heights. According to court documents, when she declined, he pinned her against the vehicle and made unwanted physical contact. The woman managed to free herself and fled toward her front door.

After the incident, she identified Williams from a photo lineup, prompting police to obtain a warrant for his DNA. During an interview, Williams denied the allegations and claimed he did not remember the ride.

In May, test results confirmed the presence of Williams’ DNA on samples collected from the victim during a medical examination.

In response to the allegations, Lyft issued a statement condemning the behavior and confirmed they had permanently banned Williams from the platform. They also expressed their commitment to supporting law enforcement in the investigation.
