Lone passenger who survived deadly Air India crash describes what happened

In a tragic incident, a lone survivor emerged from the wreckage of the Air India crash that claimed the lives of at least 240 individuals. This survivor, Vishwashkumar Ramesh, was found near the debris, having been ejected from the plane during the disaster. A medic confirmed Ramesh’s tale of survival, stating that he managed to reach a nearby ambulance for assistance.

Dr. Dhaval Gameti, who tended to Ramesh at Ahmedabad’s Civil Hospital, described him as disoriented and covered in injuries but noted that he was no longer in critical danger. Ramesh recounted a harrowing experience: just after takeoff, the aircraft began to descend abruptly, splitting in two before a loud explosion ensued.

Footage from Indian news outlets showed Ramesh walking away from the crash site, bloodied, while chaos unfolded around him. He reported seeing bodies and debris scattered widely, which compounded his shock. “I got up, looked around, and saw bodies everywhere. I was terrified,” he recounted to the Hindustan Times.

On his way to London with his brother, Ramesh reached out to relatives in Leicester after the accident. His cousin, Ajay Valgi, mentioned that Ramesh’s brief call reassured the family, although they remained concerned about his brother. Moments following the crash, Ramesh had contacted his father via video call, expressing disbelief at his survival and lack of awareness regarding his brother’s whereabouts.

The incident left the community and families grappling with the loss of loved ones while relaying their support for the survivor. Reports continue to follow the aftermath of this devastating event.
