Sheriff Schuster Secures GOP Primary Victory in Bid for Re-Election
Mohave County Sheriff Doug Schuster secured 73% of the vote in the Republican primary, positioning him strongly for a third four-year term. With an insurmountable lead of 13,659 votes over challenger Mike Gannuscio, the preliminary and unofficial election results display significant support from the community.
“I’m truly honored and humbled by the tremendous support I’ve received once again,” Schuster remarked. “I’m very grateful to the citizens of Mohave County for putting their trust in me. Our priority remains ensuring that Mohave County is a safe place to live, work, and raise a family.”
Schuster thanked the current Board of Supervisors (BOS) for addressing personnel compensation issues. He expressed eagerness to collaborate with a newly constituted BOS in the future. Reflecting on his tenure since 2017, he acknowledged significant accomplishments but emphasized the continuous need for improvements, particularly in staffing levels.
In the County Assessor race, incumbent Jeanne Kentch faced a strong challenge from Becky Foster. Initially trailing, Kentch surged ahead by 362 votes as of Wednesday morning. John Warren, on the other hand, leads comfortably in the three-way race for County School Superintendent against James Barber and Gordon Groat. Warren expressed confidence in his ability to succeed retiring Superintendent Mike File, citing extensive experience in Mohave County.
“I’m excited,” Warren stated. “The volume of experience I have serving in Mohave County has groomed me for this position. I look forward to supporting schools and students throughout the county.”
Unopposed in the GOP primary and advancing to the general election are Superior Court Judge Rick Williams, County Attorney Matt Smith, Treasurer SueAnn Mello, and Recorder Lydia Durst.
