Pima County Residents: Get Ready to Dig In—Monsoon Season Approaches!

Pima County residents are encouraged to prepare for the upcoming monsoon season, which officially begins on June 15. Starting that day, residents can access sandbags across various locations in the county, including Arivaca and Summerhaven on Mt. Lemmon.
The sandbagging sites will operate 24/7, allowing residents to fill their own bags. For convenience and safety, officials advise bringing shovels and gloves, noting a limit of 20 sandbags per vehicle.
Katrina Noble, community engagement coordinator, emphasized the importance of sandbags in preventing water intrusion. “I put them across the front part of the porch so it doesn’t go into my slider doors. It helps deter water,” she stated.
Oro Valley will also launch a sandbag station on June 16 at Naranja Park, located at 810 W. Naranja Drive. This site will be available from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. until September 30, with a limit of 10 bags per vehicle. Oro Valley residents seeking assistance can schedule a pickup for pre-bagged sand.
Residents can find sandbag sites throughout Pima County, including locations at:
- 16091 W. Universal Ranch Rd. – Fire Station, Arivaca

In addition, Tucson’s Department of Transportation and Mobility will provide self-serve sandbags at Hi Corbett Field, 700 S. Randolph Way, also open 24/7. The city limits this service to 10 sandbags per vehicle.
The sandbagging initiatives are timely, as the 2025 monsoon season is projected to bring above-average rainfall to east-central Arizona, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. In preparation, city crews have started placing barricades at various dip crossings throughout Tucson.
Officials remind residents to remain vigilant, as low-lying areas may experience flooding during summer storms.
