Sedona and Canmore Libraries Exchange Literary Treasures by Local Authors

The Community Library Sedona and the Sedona Sister Cities Association have launched a new international partnership with the Canmore Public Library in Alberta, Canada. This initiative marks both libraries as Sister City Libraries.
Part of the global Sister Cities program, this collaboration aims to promote peace and understanding between nations through lasting city partnerships. These connections foster cultural and educational exchanges, enhancing community development and mutual respect.
Patty Kelly, project coordinator for the Community Library Sedona, expressed the significance of this partnership. “This library-to-library collaboration aligns with our commitment to learning and international friendship,” she stated. “These values are central to our mission and vital for our community.”
Through this partnership, Sedona and Canmore libraries will implement various programs and initiatives designed to showcase local voices and cultural heritage while promoting global learning.
The inaugural project is a local author book exchange, set to begin on May 1. Each library has chosen seven titles by local authors to share with their counterpart, creating special displays that offer readers in both towns new narratives and insights. Each book will feature a custom bookplate along with a personal note from its author.
Kelly emphasized the broader implications of this effort: “This partnership transcends books. It’s about building bridges, celebrating creativity, and connecting communities through the power of libraries.”
Further projects are in the pipeline as both libraries look to deepen their collaboration, continuing to strengthen the bond between Sedona and Canmore.
