Plane Crashes off California Coast En Route to Phoenix, Flight Data Reveals

SAN DIEGO — The U.S. Coast Guard has initiated a search for six individuals aboard a Cessna 414 that reportedly crashed three miles west of Point Loma on Sunday afternoon. The aircraft took off from San Diego International Airport at 12:24 p.m., en route to Phoenix.
According to the Coast Guard, the plane’s last known position was over the ocean, prompting search efforts to begin around 1 p.m. The agency deployed two helicopters and three boats in the search, collaborating with the San Diego Harbor Police, who are using sonar technology to locate the crash site. The ocean depths in that region reach approximately 200 feet.
Lifeguards from the San Diego Fire Department reported finding an oil sheen and some debris on the water. Any debris they recovered has since been handed over to Coast Guard officials for further investigation. As of now, none of the six people on board have been located.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
