Apache Junction Officer Tragically Killed in Line of Duty Shooting

APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. — Officer Gabriel Facio, critically injured in a shooting on Monday, succumbed to his wounds on Sunday, marking a tragic loss for the local community. Facio, who had served with the Apache Junction Police Department for three years, was hailed as the “heartbeat” of the department.

The incident occurred while responding to a call regarding a man with a weapon. Officers arrived to find 37-year-old Roger Nunez, who reportedly exited his vehicle brandishing a firearm. During the confrontation, both the officer and Nunez were shot and transported to a local hospital.

Chief Michael Pooley expressed profound sorrow in a statement. “It is with a broken heart I inform you of the passing of Officer Gabriel Facio today at 1:08 pm,” he said. Pooley emphasized that Officer Facio was not only a dedicated police officer but also a cherished family man whose service would not be forgotten.

Facio’s ordeal highlighted his remarkable strength, as he fought for his life surrounded by loved ones. However, the violence inflicted during a senseless act ultimately proved too severe.
