Tragic Shooting: Apache Junction Officer Fatally Injured in Face Attack

APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. — Officer Gabriel Facio, shot while responding to a call on Monday, has succumbed to his injuries. He passed away on Sunday, as confirmed by local officials.
Facio, a dedicated member of the Apache Junction Police Department for three years, was renowned for his passion and commitment. Described as the “heartbeat” of the department, his loss is deeply felt within the community and among his colleagues.
The incident began with reports of a man wielding a weapon. Officers intercepted 37-year-old Roger Nunez, who reportedly exited his vehicle with a firearm. A confrontation ensued, resulting in gunfire that injured both Facio and Nunez.
In his statement, Chief Michael Pooley expressed profound sorrow: “It is with a broken heart I inform you of the passing of Officer Gabriel Facio today at 1:08 pm. A piece of us was lost as he took his last breath surrounded by family.” He emphasized the overwhelming support from the community during this tragic time.
Officer Facio is survived by his wife and two children. The chief noted the remarkable strength Facio displayed throughout his critical condition, highlighting the love and prayers that surrounded him.
