Body Cam Reveals Intense Struggle Between Man and Phoenix Cop During Traffic Stop

PHOENIX — Body camera footage has revealed a volatile traffic stop involving a Phoenix police officer and a motorist. The incident, which took place on May 25, unfolded near 25th Street and Cactus Road and escalated into a physical confrontation.
The footage shows the officer engaging the driver, who quickly questioned the reason for the stop. The verbal exchange became heated, with the driver shouting, “Why are you following me, (expletive)? This is illegal.”
As tensions flared, the driver demanded to speak with the officer’s superior, using derogatory language and accusing the officer of stalking.
The situation deteriorated further, culminating in a physical altercation that obscured the body camera’s view. A bystander captured video of the struggle, during which they attempted to intervene.
In the chaos, the officer discharged his weapon, injuring the driver. Both individuals were subsequently treated for their injuries at a local hospital.
Following medical treatment, the driver was booked into the Maricopa County jail on charges of aggravated assault. The Phoenix police department confirmed that the ongoing investigation will be forwarded to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office for review.
The police video remains available for public viewing.
