Sedona International Film Festival Showcases Must-See Summer Flicks

The Sedona International Film Festival (SIFF) is set to launch its popular “Movies on the Move” program this summer. The initiative will feature a giant inflatable screen and a movie van, bringing film to the community.
This year’s lineup includes musical nights every Wednesday at The Wilde Resort and Spa, kicking off June 11 with “Grease.” Classic films will screen on Thursday nights at Sedona Beer Company’s Basecamp, starting June 12 with “American Graffiti.”
Attendees are advised to bring chairs or blankets and arrive early, ideally 30 to 45 minutes before showtime, to secure prime viewing spots. Films will commence around 7:30 p.m., contingent on sunset, and will evolve throughout the summer.
This marks the movie truck’s second season, emphasizing community engagement and awareness. Executive Director Patrick Schweiss noted last year’s attendance varied from 35 to 120 per screening, with concert films drawing the largest crowds.
“It wasn’t just a fundraiser — it was a way to build awareness and be a part of the community,” said Schweiss, reflecting on the event’s growth in popularity. “Now we have people asking when it’s coming back. We feel like we’re really starting to establish something special here.”
Tickets are priced at $10 for both venues, up from $7 last year, a necessary adjustment to cover licensing fees. Children aged 12 and under can attend free of charge.
“We realized it was just easier to handle tens instead of making change with lots of singles,” Schweiss added. Parking remains free at both sites, with ample overflow available at the Community Library Sedona for Basecamp events.
Basecamp will feature a selection of craft beers and food, alongside themed menu items for each film, with a portion of proceeds supporting SIFF. If inclement weather arises, outdoor screenings will be relocated to the Mary D. Fisher Theatre, although last season, only one of 32 events faced this issue.
“It’s magical when it turns from dusk into evening,” Schweiss remarked. He noted that screenings often coincide with stunning celestial events, enhancing the viewing experience.
