Nearly 30 years later, 'Happy Gilmore' will hit the green again

LOS ANGELES — Adam Sandler is returning to the golf green in the new trailer for “Happy Gilmore 2.”

Netflix unveiled the trailer Saturday, featuring Sandler reprising his role as the iconic golfer. Original cast members Christopher McDonald and Julie Bowen return, portraying Shooter McGavin and Virginia Venit, respectively.

The trailer is packed with celebrity cameos, including appearances by Post Malone, Ben Stiller, Bad Bunny, and Kristen Bell. Sandler’s daughters, Sadie and Sunny, are also part of the cast.

“The first one is so iconic, we all kind of knew the world that we were stepping into,” said Conor Sherry, who plays one of Sandler’s sons. “We were like the newest additions to a long, long, long family.”

Other unexpected cameos not featured in the trailer include Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs, Kid Cudi, and Eminem. Additionally, top golfers like Bryson DeChambeau, Rory McIlroy, and John Daly join the lineup.

The over two-minute trailer shows Gilmore attempting a comeback, humorously dubbed the “comeback kid,” while being mentored by a new caddy, played by Bad Bunny. The plot centers around Gilmore’s quest to fund his daughter’s ballet school, where he hopes she can find her own “happy place.”

Directed by Kyle Newacheck and co-written by Sandler and Tim Herlihy, “Happy Gilmore 2” is expected to have strong comedic elements, with a trailer hinting at explicit language. The original film, released in 1996, was rated PG-13.

Fans can anticipate the sequel’s release on Netflix on July 25, 2025, marking over three decades since the first film captivated audiences.

Netflix previously teased the film with a clip released on Christmas Day, showcasing Kelce’s character greeting Sandler with, “It’s great to see you back, Mr. Gilmore.”
