21-Year-Old Struck and Killed in Hit-and-Run on Grand Avenue; Driver Sought by Police

PHOENIX — Tragedy struck last week when 21-year-old Christian Lopez was fatally injured while walking on the sidewalk. His family confirmed the heartbreaking news following the incident.
On May 23, around 12:19 a.m., Lopez was walking home along Grand Avenue near 24th Avenue when a vehicle veered off the road, struck him, and fled the scene, according to Phoenix police. No arrests have been made in connection with this case.
Lopez’s loved ones returned to the location seeking answers. They reviewed nearby surveillance footage, which reportedly captured a dark-colored SUV hitting him before speeding away. It took nearly 40 minutes for anyone to notify authorities.
Lopez was pronounced dead after being transported to a hospital. The community is shaken, with tire marks still visible on the sidewalk where the incident occurred.
His family expressed their devastation. “They took a whole life. He was only 21,” said his cousin, emphasizing Lopez’s potential and dreams unfulfilled. The young man, described as loving and humorous, leaves behind three brothers and a single mother.
Phoenix police are actively investigating Lopez’s death, but his family is demanding swift justice. As they prepare for his funeral, they are hopeful that the responsible party will be apprehended soon.
