The Phoenix law firm of Timothy La Sota has filed a complaint with Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell, urging an investigation into Arizona’s Democrat Attorney General Kris Mayes for allegedly misusing public funds for campaign-related activities.

The complaint references A.R.S. § 16-192(A), which prohibits state officials from using public resources to influence elections. This includes any misuse of funds, materials, or personnel.

In the complaint, La Sota outlines specific instances where he claims Mayes breached this law. He points to social media posts and coverage from The Arizona Republic regarding events where Mayes allegedly campaigned for Democratic candidates.

One example cited is a recent rally at Central High School in Phoenix. La Sota characterizes the event as politically charged and suggests Mayes used it to bolster the electoral prospects of opponents to GOP lawmakers David Schweikert and Juan Ciscomani. “Where is (Rep.) David Schweikert? Where is (Rep.) Juan Ciscomani? I’ll hold a town hall in their districts if necessary,” Mayes stated, criticizing vulnerable Republican representatives.

Additionally, La Sota argues that staff from Mayes’ office facilitated the event. Although not listed as an attendee, Minnesota’s Attorney General Keith Ellison was present at the rally, which featured a Democratic Attorneys General Association livestream.

The complaint also alleges that Mayes further misused taxpayer resources by attending another political rally in Minnesota alongside Ellison and New York Attorney General Letitia James.

La Sota emphasized, “While we respect Mayes’ rights to connect with others regardless of political stance, she cannot use taxpayer funds to promote those views. Public schools should not host political rallies.” He has called for an investigation to ensure accountability.
