Glendale’s Special Election Unveiled: Insights on Prop. 401 and 402 Results

The recent special election in Glendale revolves around critical zoning decisions that will influence the construction of the VAI Resort in the West Valley.
On Tuesday, residents cast their votes on two propositions pivotal to the future of this multi-billion-dollar entertainment complex. Proposition 401 suggests a zoning agreement with the City of Glendale, aiming to transform a 10-acre parcel southeast of the resort into a parking facility for the resort’s corporate headquarters.
The second measure, Proposition 402, involves altering Planned Area Development zoning regulations. It would permit flushing swimming pool filters directly into the sewer system, exceed local lighting restrictions at the MATTEL theme park, and modify nearby road structures.
As of the latest counts, Proposition 401 is trailing with 50.27% of votes against 49.73% for approval, with Proposition 402 leading slightly at 51.68% approval. There have been 25,922 votes tallied so far, but final results are pending.
Following the 8 p.m. results announcement, a spokesperson for VAI Resort indicated they would refrain from commenting until all ballots are verified.
In response, Grant Fisher, chairman of the “Vote Yes for Glendale” campaign, expressed optimism regarding the outcomes. He emphasized the potential for job creation and tax revenue for Glendale as a positive direction for the community.
Fisher acknowledged coalition support from various sectors, underscoring the broader significance of the resort for Arizona beyond mere commercial interests.
