A trailer burned to ash in Hidden Valley. What happened?

A trailer fire in Hidden Valley, near Papago Road and Whirly Bird Road, erupted on May 7, 2025, prompting an investigation by the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO). The incident, which occurred around 5:15 a.m., resulted in thick smoke visible across the area.

Witnesses reported the blaze, with resident Brad Boucher calling 911 after spotting flames from his home. Upon sunrise, he discovered that the trailer had completely burned on a nearby access road.

PCSO spokesperson Sam Salzwedel confirmed the destruction of the trailer, which was reduced to its frame. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.

In a concerning development, residents noted a “suspicious” vehicle fleeing the scene simultaneously. Harriet Phelps, a neighbor, described the vehicle as a dark blue, older model van with patches of black and silver paint. The van had its lights off as it traveled along Papago Road early in the morning.

“You get to know whose vehicle is whose,” Phelps remarked, emphasizing the unfamiliarity of the van in their community. She promptly reported her observation to the sheriff’s deputies.

Phelps expressed worry, highlighting the risk of wildfires. “A fire like this could easily spread to nearby brush and grow larger,” she cautioned.

This incident marks the second trailer-related call the PCSO has received in two days. The day prior, the department was alerted to a stolen camper near State Route 238 and Ralston Road, although it was later determined to be outside their jurisdiction.

Investigators are still working to ascertain whether there is any connection between the trailer fire and the reported theft, as the blaze left the trailer unrecognizable.
