Teen hospitalized for smoke inhalation after saving prom tuxedo from Mesa house fire

A house fire in Mesa, Arizona, resulted in a teenager being hospitalized for smoke inhalation on Saturday afternoon.

The young man, 17, initially escaped the blaze but returned to the home to retrieve his tuxedo for the prom. Remarkably, he managed to exit a second time with the tux in hand.

Authorities reported that he was treated at the hospital and later released. His mother confirmed that he intended to attend the prom despite the incident.

The fire began at the back of the house and spread rapidly to the attic. Firefighters responded quickly at a residence near Brown and Greenfield roads.

“Our primary objective was to ensure everyone was safely out of the home,” said Firefighter Cale Ackerley. Their swift action ensured all residents were accounted for.

Once the area was secure, firefighters worked defensively to combat the flames, successfully rescuing two dogs trapped inside.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
