Trump Throws His Support Behind Biggs and Robson in Arizona Governor Race

Andy Biggs received a significant boost in his gubernatorial campaign with an endorsement from former President Donald Trump late Monday. This development adds complexity to the Republican primary as Trump also maintains an endorsement for opponent Karrin Taylor Robson.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump noted that he initially supported Robson as the only candidate in the race. However, the entry of Congressman Biggs prompted him to reconsider his stance. “I like Karrin Taylor Robson a lot,” Trump stated, reflecting on his previous endorsement. “But everything changed when Biggs decided to run.”
The president acknowledged both candidates as “terrific people” and extended his “Complete and Total Endorsement” to each. He asserted that either candidate would serve the Republican agenda well.
Robson’s response emphasized her ongoing connection with the former president, reiterating that Trump supports her “America First campaign.” However, she did not directly address Biggs’ emergence in the race.
Poll results suggest that Biggs may have gained an edge over Robson, reflecting a shift in voter sentiment. A recent poll from the anti-tax Club For Growth indicated that Biggs leads with 45%, while Robson garnered just 16% support.
In a separate survey, incumbent Governor Katie Hobbs outperformed both candidates, with Biggs trailing by only 3 percentage points and Robson by 9. Biggs publicly acknowledged Trump’s endorsement on X, expressing his commitment to support Trump’s agenda as governor of Arizona.
The political landscape remains fluid, with previous instances of Trump endorsing multiple candidates in the same race. In the 2024 Republican primary for CD8, both Abe Hamadeh and Blake Masters received Trump’s support, leading to Hamadeh’s eventual primary victory.
Robson previously ran for governor in 2022, portraying herself as a moderate but lost to Kari Lake. This time, she has positioned herself firmly within Trump’s circle, stating her excitement about aligning with his conservative agenda.
Biggs has built a reputation based on his observable loyalty to Trump, notably as a member of the House Freedom Caucus, which supported those arrested during the January 6 Capitol riots.
Another contender, State Treasurer Kimberly Yee, is a wildcard in this competitive field. Although she expressed interest in running for governor, she previously opted to seek reelection as treasurer in 2022. With term limits looming for 2026, her candidacy remains uncertain.
As the primary season heats up, the dynamics between Biggs and Robson, along with the uncertainty surrounding Yee, will shape the Republican strategy leading into the 2026 elections.
