Jury Delivers Verdict in Shocking Lori Vallow Daybell Murder Conspiracy Trial

PHOENIX — Lori Vallow Daybell, often referred to as the “Doomsday Mom,” is currently being tried in Maricopa County for allegedly conspiring to kill her former husband, Charles Vallow. Representing herself, she faces serious charges in an emotional and high-profile case.
After both sides completed their closing arguments on Monday, the case moved to the jury for deliberations. The jury requested to pause their work for the night and reconvened Tuesday morning.
By early afternoon, a verdict was anticipated, with announcements indicating that a decision had been reached. The jury took a break for lunch around noon and returned to their discussions shortly thereafter.
Unbeknownst to the jury, Vallow Daybell has a troubling history. She was previously convicted in Idaho for the murders of her children, Tylee and JJ, along with the death of her former sister-in-law, Tammy Daybell, the first wife of her husband, Chad Daybell, who is also serving a death sentence related to these crimes.
In the current Arizona case, Vallow Daybell faces conspiracy charges linked to the death of Charles Vallow. He was shot in her rental home in Chandler by her brother, Alex Cox, in July 2019 after the pair allegedly planned the attack.
Throughout about two weeks of testimony, the prosecution presented a variety of evidence, including phone calls, text messages, GPS data, and surveillance footage, carefully constructing their argument for conspiracy. During her closing statement, Prosecutor Treena Kay emphasized the prosecution’s view that Vallow Daybell orchestrated the setup that led to Charles’ shooting, labeling it as more than a mere family tragedy.
Vallow Daybell, in her own defense, argued that the state had failed to meet the burden of proof and portrayed the shooting as an act of self-defense, despite the prosecutor’s strong rebuttal likening the act to an execution.
The jury’s deliberation process reflects their autonomy, as they can dictate their own schedule. Notably, Vallow Daybell’s brother, Alex Cox, passed away in December 2019, precluding any charges against him in this case. Beyond the current trial, Vallow Daybell is also set to face another conspiracy charge related to an attempted shooting incident involving her niece’s ex-husband, expected to be prosecuted in the near future.
