Closing arguments are set to start Monday in Lori Vallow Daybell's murder conspiracy trial. Here's what to expect.

PHOENIX — The highly publicized trial of Lori Vallow Daybell, facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder, is set to culminate with closing arguments on Monday.

Vallow Daybell, who previously indicated she would testify in her defense, has decided against taking the stand, leaving the courtroom in anticipation of the final decisions. This trial follows a dark saga filled with death and deception, involving missing children and alarming beliefs.

Her narrative is already marred by convictions in Idaho for the murders of her children, Tylee and JJ. Additionally, she played a role in the death of her first husband’s wife, Tammy Daybell. Both she and her current husband, Chad Daybell, now face severe consequences, with Chad already sentenced to death.

In Arizona, Vallow Daybell is implicated in conspiracy charges tied to her estranged husband, Charles Vallow, who was shot and killed by her brother, Alex Cox, in 2019. The prosecution asserts that the two colluded to orchestrate this murder.

The trial’s testimonies have been nothing short of revealing. Prosecutors presented text messages that illustrated discussions between Vallow and her brother about Charles being overtaken by a malevolent presence named “Ned.” They also uncovered romantic exchanges between Vallow and Chad following Charles’ death, hinting at chilling motivations that could tie back to financial gain.

Witnesses, including family members, have painted a troubling picture throughout the proceedings. The defense, led by Vallow herself, made attempts to question many of these witnesses. Her defensive stance has often crossed into argumentative territory, prompting the judge to intervene frequently.

Although Vallow Daybell suggested resting her case after the prosecution’s evidence came to a close, there remains a technical loophole; since she expressed her intentions while the jury was outside, she could reverse her decision before final statements commence.

This phase of the trial is particularly critical, as both sides prepare for jury instructions and concluding arguments. The outcome of these proceedings could significantly impact Vallow Daybell’s future, as she also faces a separate murder conspiracy charge related to an attempted shooting involving her niece’s ex-husband.

With the court’s proceedings intensifying, all eyes will be on the courtroom as it prepares for the closing arguments expected to ignite discussions about justice and accountability in this notable case.
