Cave Creek Town Council Greenlights Major Roadway Upgrades

CAVE CREEK – During the Town Council’s meeting on April 7, a unanimous decision was made to approve two significant contracts, aggregating $1,505,362.61, aimed at enhancing 19 town roads. The improvements, which include paving and cape sealing, are expected to be completed by June 30, 2025, marking the end of Fiscal Year 2025.
The Public Works Department conducted a competitive bid process for the road projects. The scope involves paving six roads and applying a cape seal treatment, which entails leveling existing road surfaces with a slurry seal followed by a layer of chips and another slurry finish. These projects were derived from the Pavement Management Plan published in August 2020, emphasizing the need for maintenance to prolong the functional lifespan of the roads.
Specifically, the roads designated for paving repairs include:
- 32nd Street from Carefree Highway to the Park entrance – pulverize and pave
- Cloud Road – 150 feet east and 100 feet west of 32nd Street – pulverize and pave
- School House Road from Cave Creek Road to Military Road – pulverize and pave
- Chuckwalla Trail – edge mill and overlay
- North Red Dog Drive – edge mill and overlay
- Palo Verde Pass – edge mill and overlay
The following roads will undergo Cape Seal treatments:
- Grapevine Road: from the intersection of N. Grapevine Road west to the Town limits; E. Grapevine Road from the Town boundary to the intersection of N. 78th Street.
- Yucca Road from Spur Cross Road west to 56th Street
- 56th Street from E. Yucca Road south to E. Desert Hills Drive
- Desert Hills Drive from N. 56th Street working west for approximately 500 feet
- Azura Hills Drive from Spur Cross Road east to 60th Street
- 60th Street from the edge of Azura Hills Drive intersection to East Lone Mountain Road North
- East Lone Mountain Road North from 60th Street west toward N. 58th Street
- 53rd Street from E. Barbie Lane intersection to E. Olesen Road intersection
- Mountain Reserve Drive from Spur Cross Road east to the cul-de-sac
- Desert Sage Place from E. Mountain Reserve Drive south to the cul-de-sac
On March 13, 2025, the Town received five bids for the paving work, with PAP, LLC emerging as the lowest bidder and subsequently awarded the contract. For the Cape Seal projects, Cactus Asphalt was chosen from three bidders as the most competitive option.
The execution of these road projects aligns with the strategic goals outlined by the Town Council, promoting a visible enhancement in the condition and usability of Cave Creek’s road infrastructure.
