Residents escape Alterra house fire, which is under investigation

Firefighters swiftly responded to a house fire on Carmen Avenue this afternoon, with the incident occurring around 4:45 p.m. The Maricopa Fire Department and other emergency personnel arrived to find thick, brown smoke billowing from the residence.

Homeowner Maria Rosales confirmed that all residents were able to escape unharmed. However, she expressed concern for two pets that were believed to still be inside. Firefighters worked diligently to extinguish the flames while also attempting to locate the animals.

In an update around 5:26 p.m., reports indicated firefighters had successfully rescued a cat from the home, which they treated with oxygen due to its condition from the smoke.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Authorities temporarily closed Carmen Avenue between Applegate and Woody Roads, urging residents to steer clear of the area as crews worked on site.

Multiple units, including the Goodyear Fire Department and Arizona Fire and Medical Authority, assisted Maricopa fire crews during the emergency response. Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
