City Council to Explore Funding for SR 347 Improvements

Maricopa, AZ – In a recent initiative aimed at addressing long-standing traffic issues, the Maricopa City Council is considering a local sales tax measure to support the widening of State Route 347 (SR 347). This comes after years of advocacy and repeated funding challenges that have stalled progress on necessary improvements.

The potential measure, set to be discussed at a City Council meeting on May 6, 2025, may provide the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) with the confidence to prioritize SR 347 within its upcoming five-year construction plan. To gauge public interest and input, the council is organizing three open house sessions where residents can engage directly with city officials.

“This is your chance to voice your opinions on a project that could significantly impact our city’s transportation infrastructure,” said Vincent Manfredi, a Maricopa City Council member. “We want to hear from the community.”

The first open house is scheduled for Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:30 AM at the Maricopa Community Center. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions through informal discussions and interactive displays.

If residents are unable to attend the first session, two additional opportunities will be held: on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at Copper Sky Multigenerational Center from 10:00 to 11:30 AM and on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM at the Maricopa Library & Cultural Center.
