LIVE UPDATES: Dramatic Cross-Examination Unfolds as Lori Vallow Daybell Faces Day 2 of Trial

PHOENIX — Testimony in the trial of Lori Vallow Daybell resumed Tuesday, marking day two of proceedings in her high-profile murder trial. Vallow Daybell, who is representing herself, faces charges of conspiring to kill her former husband, Charles Vallow. She has pleaded not guilty.
On the first day of testimony, the prosecution laid out its case while Vallow Daybell presented her opening statements. The state brought forth three key witnesses: two officers from the Chandler Police Department and a firefighter from the Chandler Fire Department. All witnesses were involved in the incident surrounding Charles Vallow’s shooting.
Time-stamped updates from the courtroom recount the day’s developments. At 11:20 AM, Prosecutor Treena Kay called Kent Keller, a recently retired fire captain, to testify about the circumstances of the shooting in 2019. Earlier, around 10:39 AM, Vallow Daybell cross-examined Scott Cowden, a firefighter, focusing on the CPR provided to her husband after the shooting. This discussion is pivotal, given allegations that her brother, Alex Cox, failed to administer CPR as claimed.
At the start of the day, the courtroom was filled with spectators awaiting the resumption of testimony at 10:30 AM. This comes after the judge dismissed juror #4 following concerns over juror availability. Vallow Daybell appeared in court wearing dark pants and a blue jacket, noting that some of her legal team was running late.
Vallow Daybell’s legal troubles are extensive; she was previously convicted in Idaho for the murders of her children, Tylee and JJ, and for her role in the death of Tammy Daybell, the first wife of her current husband, Chad Daybell. Chad Daybell also received a conviction in Idaho connected to these crimes and was sentenced to death.
Vallow Daybell’s situation in Arizona follows her extradition from Idaho in 2023. Her brother, Alex Cox, who has been implicated in this case, died in December 2019, precluding any charges against him.
