While representing herself in murder conspiracy trial, Lori Vallow Daybell will wear 'stun belt'

A jury has been impaneled for the first trial of Lori Vallow Daybell in Arizona. The jurors, consisting of 13 men and three women, will oversee the case. Out of these, twelve will deliberate, while four will serve as alternates.

In 2023, Vallow Daybell faced convictions in Idaho for the murders of her children, Tylee and JJ, as well as her husband Chad Daybell’s first wife, Tammy. She received a life sentence for these crimes.

Now, Vallow Daybell is being tried in Arizona for her alleged role in the conspiracy to murder her former husband, Charles Vallow, who died in July 2019 in Chandler.

She has pled not guilty and will represent herself in this trial, which marks the first of two legal battles she faces in the state. The second trial will focus on her alleged conspiracy to kill her niece’s ex-husband, an attack that did not occur.

Opening statements are set for Monday, April 7. Vallow Daybell was extradited from Idaho to Arizona in late 2023 and has been held at Estrella jail, where she will remain during the trial.

Notably, she has been allowed to wear civilian clothing instead of the standard orange jail attire. Over the past two days of jury selection, she has appeared in a black blazer and dark pants. While she is not wearing handcuffs or leg restraints, she is equipped with a stun belt to deter escape attempts. An unarmed deputy will be present in the courtroom, with additional security positioned at exits.

Chad Daybell, her husband, was previously convicted in Idaho for the same murders and is serving a death sentence.
