Sonoran Arts League and Hampton by Hilton Carefree partner to showcase local artists

Mayor John Crane of Carefree recently joined forces with the Sonoran Arts League and executives from Hampton by Hilton Carefree to commemorate a groundbreaking partnership during a special reception held in the hotel’s lobby. This collaboration showcases local artistry, transforming the hotel space into a vibrant gallery featuring a wide array of works including acrylic and oil paintings, colored pencil drawings, and fine art photography that celebrate the unique beauty of the region.

“This partnership goes beyond mere decoration; it embodies community spirit and brings our local artists into the spotlight,” stated Alec Madsen, general manager of Hampton by Hilton Carefree. His sentiments reflect a growing trend in art tourism, highlighted by a recent Grand View Research report which emphasizes the rising interest among tourists to engage with local culture through art.

Jo Gemmill, a board member of the Sonoran Arts League, sought a local collaborator for the “Art in Public Places” initiative. Her vision was to create an engaging space that promotes community talent. “The hotel’s walls were crying out for good art. What better way to showcase Carefree’s hospitality than by teaming up with local artists?” she remarked.

Gemmill, along with fellow League board member Beth Zink, presented a curated proposal to hotel stakeholders, leading to the selection of seven talented artists whose works now adorn the lobby. Featured artists include painters Jeanne Bonine, Gale Haire, Meg Harper, and Beth Zink, alongside photographers Jules Gallatig and Carla Meeske, and pencil artist Dick Mueller. Guests are encouraged to scan QR codes next to the artworks for more information on each artist.

The reception garnered attention, with Mayor Crane expressing excitement about the creative collaboration. “This is the beginning of a growing partnership that enhances Carefree’s unique character and welcoming community,” he said.

The Sonoran Arts League plans to rotate the displayed artwork regularly, potentially expanding its presence throughout the hotel. Madsen highlighted the positive guest reactions, noting that many have taken photos with the artworks, affirming the partnership’s success in enriching the visitor experience.
