ATC’s 58th Season: A Hilarious Heist of Music and Laughter!

The Arizona Theatre Company (ATC) has unveiled its 58th season, aiming to engage audiences through diverse programming that prioritizes community, entertainment, and humor. The lineup includes five productions, showcasing a range of genres from musical theatre to suspenseful mysteries.
Artistic Director Matt August emphasized the importance of inclusivity in the season’s offerings. “It’s crucial that we have something for everybody and that we serve both communities that we’re in,” he stated. He added that the selected plays not only maintain high artistic standards but also introduce fresh narratives to each city, ensuring a blend of depth and entertainment.
Among the offerings, the season opens with the psychological thriller “Deceived,” adapted by Johnna Wright and Patty Jamieson from Patrick Hamilton’s “Gaslight.” This gripping story features Bella Manningham, a woman grappling with her sanity, and will be staged at Tucson’s Temple of Music and Art from September 9 to October 18.
Following this, the play “Heist” by Arun Lakra premieres on November 30 and runs until December 20. This production explores the chaotic escapades of a team of thieves tasked with stealing some of the world’s rarest jewels, emphasizing the unpredictability of their mission.
From January 25 to February 14, 2026, “Ain’t Misbehavin'” by Richard Maltby, Jr. and Murray Horwitz will celebrate the music of jazz legend Fats Waller, capturing the spirit of the Harlem Renaissance.
“It’s very diverse for our core audience members,” August remarked. He highlighted the educational value of these plays, aiming to inspire the next generation of theatre enthusiasts.
As spring arrives, “The Roommate” by Jen Silverman will grace the stage from March 15 to April 4, 2026. This comedic tale revolves around an empty-nester who invites a stranger to share her home, leading to unexpected friendship and a journey of second chances.
August also addressed the significance of comedy in unifying diverse perspectives during turbulent times. “Our mission is to serve all Arizonans,” he said, noting that laughter and shared experiences can foster understanding across differences.
The season will culminate with “Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors,” a humorous take on Bram Stoker’s classic novel, featuring five actors in a whirlwind of roles and costume changes. This production is scheduled for April 26 to May 16, 2026.
All performances will take place at the Temple of Music and Art, located at 330 S. Scott Ave. The ATC is committed to providing an engaging theatrical experience that connects and entertains the Arizona community.
