Officers responded to reports of a shooting on Friday morning near Camelback Road and 44th Street in Phoenix. A man was found injured at a residence in the Arcadia neighborhood and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Police dispatched units at 8 a.m. Upon arrival, they confirmed a fatality. Authorities have detained one suspect and stated that the incident does not appear to be random.

The neighborhood has since been cleared, but detectives are conducting an active investigation at the site.

“The Valley” refers to the metropolitan region of Phoenix, recognized as the largest in the Southwest. It encompasses various major cities, including Mesa, Chandler, Scottsdale, and Tempe, among others.

As of the 2020 Census, the Valley’s population exceeds 4.8 million, ranking it as the 11th largest metropolitan area in the United States, just behind Boston and Atlanta.

Maricopa County, the fourth largest county in the U.S. by population, holds approximately 4.5 million residents. Spanning 9,224 square miles, it contains around 63% of Arizona’s population.

This vast area boasts one of the largest park systems in the nation, featuring an estimated 120,000 acres of parks, trails, and campgrounds.

The county’s seat is Phoenix, which serves as the state capital and ranks as the fifth most populous city nationwide. Named after the Maricopa Native American Tribe, Maricopa County reflects a rich cultural heritage.
