Dahl Unveils Tucson Council Campaign with Exciting Launch Party This Wednesday Night

Upcoming events related to Tucson politics promise to engage the community throughout the spring and summer of 2024. Ward 3 Tucson City Councilmember Kevin Dahl will host a reelection campaign kickoff party on Wednesday, March 19, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Brother John’s Beer, Bourbon and BBQ, located at 1801 N. Stone Ave. Dahl is preparing for a primary challenge from TUSD Boardmember Sadie Shaw.
Political engagement continues with Tucson Sentinel reporter Jim Nintzel interviewing Arizona Sen. Vince Leach on Friday, March 28. This discussion will occur during the Buckmaster show, airing at noon on KVOI, 1030 AM.
The community will mourn the passing of U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva with a rosary held at St. John’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, March 25, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. His funeral mass will follow on Wednesday, March 26, at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Cathedral, with a Celebration of Life scheduled at El Casino Ballroom later that day from 2 to 6 p.m.

The political landscape will shift as the deadline for candidates to submit nominating petitions for Tucson City Council campaigns approaches on Monday, April 7. A similar deadline for the special Congressional District 7 election, necessitated by Grijalva’s death, is set for April 14.
As the calendar moves into summer, key deadlines emerge for voters. Monday, June 16, marks the deadline to register for the CD7 special election, with early voting commencing on Wednesday, June 18. Voter registration for the city of Tucson’s primary election will close on July 8, just before early voting begins for the same election on July 9. The primary election day for the CD7 special election falls on July 15, while Tucson’s primary election will occur on August 5.
Looking ahead, early voting for the CD7 special general election begins on August 27, with the general election for the CD7 special election scheduled for September 23.
