Phoenix-area freeway travel advisory, March 14-17

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced significant construction activities that will affect travel along Phoenix-area freeways this weekend, from March 14-17. Motorists are urged to expect overnight closures and to plan for detours.

Eastbound US 60 (Superstition Freeway) will be closed overnight between Country Club and Mesa drives from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday through Sunday for essential bridge maintenance. The on-ramps at Dobson and Alma School roads in this direction will also be closed. Travelers should detour via Southern Avenue or Baseline Road to bypass the closures.

In addition, westbound US 60 will be reduced to four lanes overnight during the same timeframe, with the two left lanes closed, creating a work zone that requires extra caution. Meanwhile, Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard will be closed beneath Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for bridge work. Detour routes for westbound traffic include using the northbound Loop 101 frontage road to access westbound Bell Road.

Further restrictions include a narrowing on eastbound Loop 101 between Cave Creek Road and State Route 51 on Friday night, which will limit traffic to two lanes from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. The on-ramp at Cave Creek Road will also be closed. For westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway), expect similar lane restrictions between Val Vista Drive and Lindsay Road from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday as part of a widening project.

Also note that the westbound on-ramp at Val Vista Drive will be closed for approximately 60 days starting Friday night, with alternative access at Santan Village Parkway or Lindsay Road. Additionally, the eastbound I-10 on-ramp at 32nd Street will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday until 10 p.m. Saturday due to installation of traffic-monitoring equipment related to the Broadway Curve Improvement Project, with the I-10 on-ramp at 40th Street available as an alternative.

For a comprehensive list of restrictions and detour routes, drivers can access the Weekend Travel Advisory map on the ADOT website.
