Waterman Fire burning in Yavapai County, 15 miles northwest of Congress

The Waterman Fire has now scorched 2,954 acres and remains 20% contained as of Sunday morning, according to officials.

YAVAPAI COUNTY, Ariz. — The fire, which ignited on July 25, continues to burn approximately 15 miles northwest of Congress, Arizona.

The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management reported minimal fire activity and light smoke near the ridge line on Saturday. This activity, they noted, posed no threat for further spread as it was well away from containment lines.

Currently, no communities have been placed under “GO,” “SET,” or “READY” evacuation orders. Officials also confirmed that no roadways have been closed because of the fire. Information on available shelters for potential evacuees is still pending.

With Arizona’s wildfire season picking up, residents in fire-prone areas are advised to have an emergency supply kit ready. Such kits should include essential items like three gallons of water per person, a three-day supply of non-perishable food, a first-aid kit, prescription medications, and vital documents stored in a waterproof container. Additional recommended items include a sleeping bag, a battery-powered radio, a dust mask, matches in a waterproof container, and a complete change of clothing.

For more detailed recommendations on assembling an emergency supply kit, the full National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) checklist is available online.
