Severe Winter Storms Shut Down Highways Across Northern Arizona

Portions of Interstate 40 are closed near Kingman, Ash Fork, and Winslow due to adverse winter conditions. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has issued alerts for drivers regarding these closures.
As of 9:30 p.m., the following road segments are affected:
- Interstate 40 eastbound near Kingman and Ash Fork (mileposts 71 & 146)
- Interstate 40 westbound in Winslow (milepost 252)
- Interstate 17 northbound at State Route 179 (milepost 299)
- State Route 89A in both directions between Sedona and I-17 (mileposts 375-394)
- State Route 87 southbound near Winslow (milepost 338)
- State Route 260 westbound from the State Route 87 junction to Camp Verde (mileposts 252-228)
Additionally, a serious accident has closed Interstate 40 near Williams, further complicating travel conditions in the area.
The department urges travelers to be cautious during winter weather, advising that those who do venture out should prepare for possible extended delays. Essential items to pack include a winter emergency kit containing first aid supplies, an ice scraper, blankets, and snacks.
ADOT has mobilized snowplows to work continuously in affected areas. Drivers are reminded to maintain a safe distance from snowplows—at least four car-lengths—and to avoid passing them, allowing ample space for snow and ice removal.
