Jette: 'Your well-being & safety are my top priorities'

Mike Jette, a Democratic candidate for Pima County attorney, has unveiled his platform highlighting extensive experience and a commitment to progressive values.

Jette emphasizes his pro-choice stance and dedication to environmental issues. He firmly opposes the death penalty, citing its unequal application, and advocates for automatic diversion for non-violent offenses. With credentials that include an environmental law degree and an MBA in management and finance, Jette brings a strong blend of legal and administrative expertise to his candidacy.

With a career spanning 17 years in prosecution at county, state, and federal levels, Jette has substantial legal experience. His work has taken him globally, representing the United States and the Department of Justice in countries such as Pakistan and the Philippines, where he established prosecution offices and championed the rule of law.

Jette’s portfolio includes high-stakes cases involving terrorism, corruption, human trafficking, and gender-based violence. Notably, he played a critical role in the extradition of terrorists and aiding Afghan refugees escaping the Taliban, showcasing his legal acumen and diplomatic skills.

At the local level, Jette’s prosecutorial experience covers a wide array of crimes including murder, elder fraud, public corruption, and cybercrimes. He has also invested in training new attorneys and collaborating with various law enforcement agencies. Throughout his career, he has participated in thousands of investigations and over 100 trials, consistently advocating for crime victims.

Jette asserts that justice goes beyond punishment, highlighting his commitment to restoring community balance and ensuring safety. He believes in providing essential services for both defendants and victims.

In contrast, Jette criticizes his opponent for lacking prosecutorial experience and failing to support crime victims adequately. He cites specific examples, such as the non-prosecution of domestic violence offenders and the offering of lenient plea bargains to violent criminals. Additionally, he claims systemic issues like low law enforcement morale and high staff turnover within the current Pima County Attorney’s Office management.

Jette urges voters to make a positive change by electing a candidate with proven prosecution and management experience. He promises to uphold Democratic and community values, emphasizing his volunteer work with organizations like Special Olympics, Tucson Clean and Beautiful, Habitat for Humanity, and as a crisis advocate for sexual assault victims. Endorsements from various legal professionals, activists, and law enforcement unions bolster his campaign.

Jette envisions a Pima County Attorney’s Office led by someone with relevant prosecutorial experience and a community-first approach. He pledges to prioritize the well-being and safety of the community and asks for voters’ support in the upcoming election.
