Arizona Lawmakers Embrace Fun: Golfers Can Now BYOB on Courses

House Bill 2411 recently cleared the Arizona legislature, allowing select golf courses to permit golfers to bring their own alcohol. The bill passed with a vote of 34-26, with only one Democrat, Junelle Cavero from District 11, siding with Republicans in support.
This legislation specifically targets golf course retailers that are at least 1,000 yards in size, enabling patrons to bring beverages purchased off-site. Currently, Arizona law forbids retail establishments from allowing customers to consume outside alcohol on their licensed premises.
The text of the bill states, “The legislature intends to give a golf course the ability to allow patrons to bring their own spirituous liquor onto the golf course without fear of impact to the golf course’s liquor license.” State Rep. Alexander Kolodin, representing District 3, sponsored the bill. He highlighted that this measure does not mandate golf courses to permit outside alcohol; rather, it provides them with the option.
This legislation corresponds with other recent developments in Arizona, including a bill aimed at limiting cell phone use in schools and another that would require insurance companies to explain the reasons behind denied health claims.
