Tucson City Council Honors Legacy: Columbus Park Becomes Dolores Huerta Park on Cesar Chavez Holiday

The city of Tucson has announced plans to rename a West Side park in honor of Dolores Huerta, a prominent labor leader and civil rights activist. This decision reflects the city’s commitment to recognizing influential figures in the fight for social justice.
In addition, a municipal holiday celebrating César E. Chávez will now incorporate Huerta’s name alongside his. This change aims to acknowledge Huerta’s vital contributions to the labor movement, particularly her role as co-founder of the United Farm Workers.
The city council’s decision signals an important step toward honoring diverse voices in the struggle for workers’ rights and equity. Community leaders expressed support for the initiative, emphasizing the need for recognition of those who have fought tirelessly for justice.
