‘Stewie Griffin’ doppelgänger arrested on meth charges: report

A 32-year-old man, known by the nickname “Stewie Griffin,” was apprehended on February 4, 2025, nearly two months after an incident involving a stolen vehicle and illegal drugs at a local Circle K.

The Maricopa Police Department acted on a notification from a Flock license plate-reading camera on December 19, which indicated the presence of a stolen vehicle in the area, according to a probable cause statement.

Shortly after the alert, officers located the vehicle at a Circle K. The male driver and a female passenger fled the scene. Authorities managed to locate the passenger but did not disclose her identity or the specific Circle K location involved.

The female passenger informed police that the driver was nicknamed “Stewie Griffin” due to his resemblance to the cartoon character, notably because of his large head. Surveillance footage helped identify the driver as Vernon Trejo, based on distinctive physical features.

Upon investigating the abandoned vehicle, police uncovered over 30 grams of methamphetamine, hypodermic needles containing meth, drug paraphernalia, and items addressed to Trejo, as well as several stolen batteries and cordless tools.

After a lengthy search for Trejo, police were able to track his phone to Vee Quiva Casino on Tuesday. Officers discovered him there in possession of 3.1 grams of meth.

Trejo faces serious legal consequences, including felony charges for vehicle theft, possession of dangerous drugs for sale, and drug paraphernalia, along with a misdemeanor theft charge. He also has outstanding parole violation and drug warrants, putting him at risk for more than 41 years in prison.
