On February 7, 2025, Maricopa Police, Fire, and Medical Departments responded to an incident near the railroad tracks at Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway and Plainview Street shortly before 3:30 p.m. Reports suggested that an individual had been struck by a train.

Upon arrival, authorities confirmed the death of an adult male at the scene, according to Maricopa’s public safety spokesperson, Monica Williams. The tragic event unfolded while the man was walking on the tracks, as indicated by Union Pacific spokesperson Kristen South. Notably, the individual was not in a designated crossing area when the incident occurred.
