Sonoran Arts League announces new board members

CAVE CREEK – The Sonoran Arts League, a nonprofit organization, has unveiled its new executive board, focused on enhancing art and education within the Desert Foothills community.

The 2025 board consists of David Court as president, Jim Bruce as vice president, Carole Perry as secretary, and David Shields as treasurer. Court previously led the Desert Foothills Library for over a decade before his retirement. Bruce brings experience as a former town councilman and attorney, while Shields serves as a clinical assistant professor at Arizona State University. Perry owns Laughing Glass Studio in Cave Creek.

Returning to the board are several notable members: painter Beth Zink, architect Nick Mancusi, Candy Vermillion of Vermillion Promotions Festivals, and Jo Gemmill from the English Rose Tea Room, who joined last September. New members include film producer and author Suzanne Johnson, former education director Evelyn Holbrook, and musician Don Senneville.

“We’re very proud of the impact the Sonoran Arts League has made on our community over the past five decades,” stated David Court. He emphasized the League’s commitment to evolving its services to meet the needs of various generations. Activities encompass art showcases in Carefree, community art classes, and collaborations on public art projects.

Support for the League can be offered through memberships starting at $95 or by sponsoring events. The organization runs various art classes at its Studio in Cave Creek, located at 7100 E. Cave Creek Road, Suite 144. Veterans and students from 7th to 12th grade can participate in some classes for free, courtesy of the Kiwanis Club of Carefree.

Among the League’s premier events is the upcoming Hidden in the Hills artist studio tour, celebrating its 29th year over the last two weekends of November. Additionally, the Sonoran Arts League Gallery displays a range of fine art from its members. The current exhibit, “Different Point of View,” will be on display through February 27. The gallery is situated at 7275 E. Easy St., Suite A104 in Carefree.

On March 21, 22, and 23, the Sonoran Arts Festival will take place at The Holland Community Center in Scottsdale. This inaugural event will feature live music, diverse food options, and a silent auction, creating an engaging atmosphere for attendees.
