Early Week Weather Wreaks Havoc: Prepare for Impacts

The dry, mild stretch of weather in Arizona is set to change as a storm system approaches the state.
PHOENIX — Residents are enjoying pleasant temperatures while much of the Midwest and East prepares for a significant winter storm. This Sunday, temperatures across the lower desert regions will reach the upper 60s to lower 70s, while high-altitude areas like Flagstaff can expect a cooler high of 49 degrees under partly sunny skies.
Calm weather persists through Monday. However, a storm system is forecast to arrive on Tuesday, bringing increased winds, rain, and mountain snow across Arizona. Gusts could reach up to 25 mph in the lower deserts and as high as 55 mph in elevated regions. Although showers are possible in lower deserts on Wednesday, the majority of precipitation will occur in the eastern highlands, including the White Mountains and the Kaibab Plateau, with snow levels dropping to around 4,000 feet.
Post-storm, temperatures will return to near-normal levels. Starting Wednesday, high temperatures in the valleys are expected to fall to the 60s.
