Tom Horne, the Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction and former Attorney General, is calling out the current Attorney General, Kris Mayes, for her lack of qualifications and effectiveness in the role. Horne, who emphasizes the importance of the Attorney General’s responsibilities, believes Mayes has not fulfilled her duties to defend Arizona law.

Before her narrow election victory, Mayes boasted no criminal prosecution experience or private law practice. Horne argues that this inexperience has hindered her ability to defend critical Arizona laws, particularly a statute banning biological males from competing in girls’ sports. According to Horne, Mayes’s refusal to defend the law citing a conflict of interest misrepresents the role of an Attorney General, who should advocate for laws even when there is personal disagreement.

Horne criticizes another instance where Mayes pursued litigation against a voter-approved initiative mandating structured English immersion for English language learners. He describes this as a disregard for the voters’ will and the legal framework of Arizona. Horne insists that the state deserves a qualified Attorney General, someone with a solid prosecutorial background to support law enforcement and protect families.

In response, Horne has taken on the role of campaign chairman for Rodney Glassman, who is running for Attorney General in 2026. Glassman, a seasoned Air Force prosecutor, has spent nearly two decades as a military legal advisor. His prosecutorial experience includes dealing with drug offenses and crimes against victims, equipping him with the skills needed to advocate for residents and law enforcement alike.

Glassman not only has a history of litigation success, but he also has aligned himself with the community, actively participating in family and volunteer initiatives. A former Democrat who switched to the Republican party in 2015, he brings a diverse perspective to the campaign. His tenure on the Tucson City Council and extensive legal background position him as a strong candidate for the role.

Horne believes that Rodney Glassman’s leadership will be pivotal in protecting Arizona laws, supporting law enforcement, and addressing concerns such as Critical Race Theory. He encourages Republicans statewide to rally behind Glassman for the upcoming election.
