Pima Women Dominate Cuyamaca College with Cassie Coolidge’s 13-point Surge off the Bench
The Pima Community College women’s basketball team concluded their participation in the Aztec Holiday Classic with a decisive 88-36 victory over Cuyamaca College on Monday. With this win, the Aztecs, currently ranked 13th, finished the invitational with a record of 2-1.
Initially trailing 11-6, the Aztecs surged ahead with a formidable 20-4 run, establishing a 26-15 lead. At halftime, they were in command with a score of 42-21. The team’s dominance continued into the third quarter, where they outscored Cuyamaca 23-6, shooting an impressive 10 for 13 from the field to expand their lead to 65-27. By the end of the game, Pima had limited their opponents to just 15 points in the second half.
Notable contributions came from freshman Cassie Coolidge, who led the team with 13 points off the bench, shooting 5 for 7 overall and 3 for 4 from three-point range. Additionally, she recorded three rebounds, two assists, and one steal during her time on the court.
Freshman Kiley Sours-Miller achieved her second consecutive double-double, tallying 10 points and 11 rebounds. In 16 minutes, she shot 4 for 8 and contributed two steals and two blocks. Over the course of the Aztec Holiday Classic, Sours-Miller averaged 14 points and nine rebounds.
Lucy Land also stood out, scoring 11 points for the second straight game with a shooting performance of 3 for 6, including two three-pointers. Other contributions included eight points from freshman Sofia Cambridge and a well-rounded effort from sophomore Katie Burns, who registered seven points, seven rebounds, three steals, two assists, and two blocks. Sophomore Amelie Buffill-Gutierrez and freshman Keira Beall-Gleason each added seven points as well, while sophomore Tayden Hanks contributed six points and five boards.
The Aztecs will return to the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium on Saturday to face Yavapai College in a non-conference matchup. The game is scheduled to tip off at 2 p.m.
