Sky Harbor Terminal 4 Resumes Operations Following Christmas Night Shooting Incident

PHOENIX — Emergency responders converged on Terminal 4 of Sky Harbor Airport late Christmas night following reports of gunfire. The Phoenix Police Department received calls regarding the incident at 9:41 p.m., prompting the temporary closure of the terminal.
Witness accounts indicated that travelers were informed of an active shooter as they entered, resulting in immediate evacuation. Police later confirmed the shooting but assured the public that there was no ongoing threat. The scene has since been secured.
The Phoenix Police Department stated on X that no suspects are being pursued and that normal airport operations have been restored. Travelers expressed concern, particularly given the context of holiday travel. Gabriella Uloa, who was at the airport to drop off family, reported seeing a seriously injured individual being transported by ambulance.
“It’s frightening because it’s the holidays,” Uloa commented. “Of course everyone wants to get home to their families.” Indeed, the atmosphere was tense as families rushed to reach their flights amid the unfolding situation.
Sky Harbor Airport later released an official update, confirming the initial reports of gunfire and noting that security checkpoints were briefly closed and the PHX Sky Train operations were placed on hold as a precaution. “However, the situation has been resolved, and operations are returning to normal,” the statement added.
A public information officer from the Phoenix Police Department is expected to provide further details as the story develops. This incident has raised significant concern, but the swift response from law enforcement seems to have mitigated further risks.
