'We pray he finds a good home': Dog given to AHS with heart-wrenching note up for adoption

Armando is a 4-year-old Labrador mix. The humane society is seeking a loving forever home for him.

PHOENIX — Armando, a friendly four-year-old Labrador retriever mix, is in urgent need of a new home. His previous family faced unfortunate circumstances, leading them to surrender him just days before Christmas.

On December 15, a staff member at the Arizona Humane Society discovered Armando tied up in the parking lot of the Sunnyslope Campus shelter. A heartfelt note accompanied him, detailing his situation:

“It is with a heavy heart that we had to result to this but due to unforeseen circumstances we had no choice. This is Armando (Mando). He is four years old, a Husky Labrador mix. He has had his shots but might need them soon. He’s very friendly with dogs and people. He is prone to ear infections. We pray he finds a good home. God bless.”

Despite needing treatment for a minor ear infection, Armando is otherwise healthy and ready for adoption. While he can be shy initially, he quickly opens up to new people.

Sadly, Armando’s story reflects a growing trend. The Arizona Humane Society reports that shelters throughout Maricopa County are overwhelmed, with many pets being abandoned when owners can no longer care for them.

In light of this situation, the society encourages potential pet owners to consider adoption instead of purchasing from breeders or pet stores. Numerous animals, like Armando, are in need of a loving home.

For pet owners facing challenges, the Arizona Humane Society offers support services, which can be explored at azhumane.org/resources. Additionally, the Arizona Pet Project provides assistance to help families remain united with their pets during crises. More information is available at azpetproject.org.
